Description
The PhD in Archaeology at the University of Minho (UM) began in the academic year 2010-2011, serving as the culmination of the education provided in the first and second cycles of Archaeology, deepening the necessary skills for a qualified and innovative practice of the archaeologist profession and for the development of excellent research.
The PhD is supported by a highly qualified and dynamic faculty that develops innovative scientific projects, also counting on the collaboration of professors and researchers from other universities. Students also benefit from the possibility of integrating into national and international research projects developed by the faculty within the Archaeology Unit of the University of Minho and Lab2PT, funded by the FCT.
In its current configuration, the PhD in Archaeology at the University of Minho represents a training cycle that seeks to cover a broad and varied range of themes in time and space, in order to acquire new knowledge and skills that allow solving research problems, dealing with complex issues, and issuing critical judgments on matters related to Archaeology in its various specialties.
Key learning outcomes
The program aims to achieve the following general learning objectives:
1. provide advanced knowledge and methodologies in the scientific area of Archaeology and its relationship with interface areas;
2. promote new skills to use knowledge, develop new knowledge, and carry out autonomous research work;
3. develop scientific communication habits of archaeological data, in different spheres of complexity, different contexts, and for different audiences;
4. deepen appropriate skills for the excellent exercise of archaeological activity, namely in the scientific, interpersonal, social, and ethical scope.
