Description


The main objective of the University of Minho’s Master Degree in Cultural Heritage is to enhance a knowhow formative profile of high specialization in order to enable the graduates to achieve a high level of performance when dealing with matters of research, coordination and management of projects concerning the appreciation of historical heritage. This Degree also intends to raise awareness of scientifical and professional ethics. During the Degree’s second year, whenever posible, work can be conducted in close connection with other cultural institutions (within the legal necessary framework).
Studies within the field of Cultural Heritage justify - and claim for – a Studies Plan that includes courses (Unidades Curriculares) calling upon eight different scientific areas such as History, the main scientific area of this Master Degree, Archeology, Anthropology, Educational Techniques, Foreign Affairs, State Administration, Geology, Geography and New Information Technologies. This variety of approaches intends to enable the graduates with the skills that are needed when trying to solve problems within real and complex contexts.

Access to higher education


This Master Degree can be the foundation for a PhD (3ºCiclo/Doutoramento) in Cultural Heritage or in any other scientific area included in its Studies Plan.

Careers


After graduation, each former student will become a “Specialized Technician in Cultural Heritage”. Work may be available in county councils or other cultural public or private institutions such as tourism offices, museums, interpretation centres, etc.

Formal requirements


Are admitted to candidacy:
- graduates in History, Archaeology, History of Art, Anthropology, Sociology, Geography and Tourism, as well as any other technical-scientific degree similar to those, obtained in Portugal and in the European Community;
- are also admitted to this master's students who have obtained a degree in other foreign countries, since this degree is recognized by the Scientific Council of the Institute of Social Sciences;
- may also be admitted to this master holders of an academic, scientific or professional CV of recognized merit in the scientific area of this master course, since this is recognized by the Scientific Council of the Institute of Social Sciences.
