Description

The MG aims to provide advanced training in three areas of specialisation, which coincide with the most current and relevant fields of professional activity and research, both within the scientific area of Geography as well as land-use development and planning: Tourism and Territorial Communication; Geographic Information Systems(GIS); Risks and Civil Protection. This course is aimed at deepening the scientific and technical knowledge of the students in: the main challenges arising from the strong growth of tourism in terms of land management and its communicational dynamics; the ongoing trends of social, economic and environmental changes and their implications in spatial organization, including threats they pose and opportunities they present; the valorisation of natural resources and the minimization of vulnerabilities and risks; the creation of information, integrated analysis and land modelling and scenario building at various scales, made possible by GIS and Remote Sensing.

Key learning outcomes

The MG aims to deepen the knowledge acquired in degrees of the area of Geography(or related), as well as to provide an academic and professional specialisation based on an interdisciplinary and flexible training, with the integration of CU of several scientific areas in its study plan.
The MG considers in its study plan the possibility for students to choose between two possible alternatives, one of a more academic nature with the elaboration of a dissertation,and the other, of a more professional nature, with the elaboration of an internship report, or a project work.
It aims to:
1. provide students with the appropriate theoretical and methodological references for the development of scientific research, particularly with an application to land-use planning and management;
2. promote students’ autonomy in order to extend their scientific research competences, especially with regard to critical reflection and innovation capacities;
3. establish a closer contact with work environments.

Access to higher education

This Master degree provides basic training to carry out a course of 3rd cycle (PhD) in the same scientific area, or other áreas.
