Description
The 2nd Cycle Studies in Sociology provides a solid and up-to-date background in sociological theories and sociological research practices and provides the acquisition of methodological, technical intervention and critical reflection skills, in the context of contemporary societies. The course offers a comprehensive background in Topics of Contemporary Sociology and Practice of Social Researchs, while endeavouring to provide students with a crosscutting training focused on social processes in the fields of culture, organizations, work, development. and social policies. From the second semester, the curriculum offers a differentiated training course in one of three areas of specialization: Culture and Identities, Organizations and Work and Social Policies. In the 2nd year, with the guidance of a supervisor, the student chooses to do Dissertation, Project Work or Internship, thus pursuing paths specifically oriented to research, intervention and professionalization.

1. Acquisition of up-to-date knowledge about fundamental sociological issues and debates in contemporary societies;
2. Deepening of fundamental theoretical and methodological knowledge in sociology and of specific domains such as culture and identities, organizations and work and social policies;
3. Application of knowledge to research and intervene in complex social issues in the following areas: social policies; culture and identities; organizations and work;
4. Development of competences to reflectively and critically identify the ethical, technical and social implications and responsibilities that result from applied knowledge and proposed solutions in social research and intervention contexts;
5. Acquisition of methods for communicating results and knowledge through research and intervention reports.
Access to higher education
The Master of Sociology grants the technical-scientific ability to access third cycle courses (Doctorate).

The course profile enhances employability in the following sectors: central and local public administration, companies, cultural institutions and third sector organizations (associations, cooperatives, Private Social Solidarity Institutions - IPSS, Non-Governmental Organizations - NGOs). The main fields of professional activity are: scientific research in research centres and project offices; vocational education and training; intervention for social inclusion; management and intervention in the fields of culture, heritage and tourism; diagnosis and organizational intervention, namely in the field of human resources development and social responsibility of organizations; territorial development, community intervention and social innovation projects.
